For many mathematicians the frustration is that the beautiful concrete ideas we see in our heads do not translate to other people outside of mathematics. Mathematical images and objects are a get way to get past this barrier and can sometimes be useful to help understand what is happening even for mathematicians. I will start by showing some of the mathematical materials that I have created, images, wooden models and more. We will then explore a system where hook together paper pieces demonstrate curvature, and I will finish by describing a new project with Jeremy Van Horn-Morris and Salvador Barraza Lopez in Arkansas where we are using these models to understand the differential geometry of graphene and other 2d crystals. http://www.mathematicians.org.uk/eoh/ Edmund HARRISS –Edmund Harriss est en résidence auprès de l’IMERA du 21 août 2017 au 16 janvier 2018.–[
